4 Syracuse runners earn first-team All-America honors at NCAA indoor track and field championships, most in program history

The Orange set a new record this past weekend at the NCAA indoor track and field championships. Freddie Crittenden III, Justyn Knight, Colin Bennie, and Adam Palamar all earned First-Team All-America honors, the most in program history.

Crittenden finished nationals with the best place of any Syracuse athlete, finishing second in the 60-meter hurdles to Oregon’s Devon Allen (7.56 seconds). Crittenden produced a personal best time of 7.64 seconds after setting a personal best in the preliminaries the day before by finishing 7.68 seconds. It was the best finish by an Orange hurdler since Jarret Eaton in 2012.

Justyn Knight finished third in the 3,000-meter with a time of 8:01.85. Sean McGorty of Stanford narrowly edged Knight by .3 seconds for second place, but neither could beat 22-year-old junior Edward Cheserek, who has 13 national championships through three seasons. Knight though, in only a year and a half of eligibility, has now earned All-America honors in cross country and both track and field seasons in the mile.

Adam Palamar raced without teammate Joel Hubbard, who was unable to qualify for finals after finishing 15th in prelims. Hubbard grabbed a second-team All-American spot. Palamar, however, finished eight in 4:07.89.
The final first-team All American, Colin Bennie, finished eighth in the 5,000-meter race with a time of 13:53.64. The sophomore, like Knight, has now earned All-America honors in all three seasons.

Shaina Harrison finished 13th overall in prelims in the 60m dash. Despite not qualifying for finals, the senior did earn Second-Team All-America honors.
